Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro to tighten online exam security with AI detection

The Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) will review and strengthen security measures for virtual admission exams after a recent scandal at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) involving suspected AI‑assisted cheating. Rector Silvia Amaya Llano said the university will implement stricter “candados” – technical locks that monitor eye movement, screen changes and the opening of additional tabs – to ensure candidates are evaluated on their own knowledge. Specialized platforms will be used to detect unusual behavior and block external resources.

UAQ’s experience with a problematic online medical faculty exam, which required a shift to in‑person testing after the platform suspended several sessions, will inform the new protocols. Each faculty will decide whether to keep virtual formats, but all will be required to adopt the enhanced safeguards for the upcoming admission cycle.
