Jorge Asjana David assumes UASD rectorship, unveils modernization and expansion agenda

Jorge Asjana David was sworn in as rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) for the 2026‑2030 term in a ceremony led by President Luis Abinader. Asjana pledged to prioritize inclusion, gender equity, transparency, democratic participation and student retention. He outlined a 100‑day plan to upgrade technology, improve campus services, launch new scholarships and strengthen research, while continuing the university’s decentralization with regional centers in Santiago Rodríguez, Neiba, Cotuí, Hato Mayor and Baní.

The new rector also announced the inauguration of a master’s program in Collective Management of Artistic and Cultural Productions, aimed at training professionals in copyright, digital platforms and cultural entrepreneurship. Several recognitions were handed out, including awards to distinguished economists, former education minister Franklin García Fermín and other contributors to Dominican higher education. The university community mourned the death of longtime political science professor David La Hoz, a noted scholar in constitutional and administrative law.

Asjana’s agenda positions the UASD for its 500‑year commemorations in 2038 and seeks to enhance its role in national development.
