Mexican universities launch joint initiatives in innovation, AI, and public service

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Tecnológico de Monterrey formalized a strategic alliance to strengthen collaborative innovation in Mexico, joining UNAM’s Innovation District Tlalpan. David Garza Salazar, president of Tecnológico de Monterrey, said the partnership aims to “address humanity’s great challenges with multidisciplinary collaboration.”

The Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) and the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) signed a strategic agreement to develop joint projects in artificial intelligence. Marcelo García Almaguer, director of BUAP’s Agency for Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Ethics, highlighted the collaboration’s goal to combine BUAP’s data‑science expertise with UDLAP’s strengths in strategy and user experience.

The Secretariat of Economy incorporated the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) into a national conven‑tion for strengthening public service, alongside institutions such as UNAM, Tecnológico de Monterrey and others. Rector Dámaso Anaya emphasized the need for university education to prepare future public officials, while Secretary Marcelo Ebrard reiterated the importance of linking academic talent with government initiatives.

These coordinated actions reflect a broader effort by Mexico’s higher‑education sector to foster innovation, technological development and more effective public administration.
