Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México launches gender‑based violence prevention training for public transport staff

The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx), together with the Institute of Transport of the State of Mexico and the State Mobility Secretariat, has instituted a permanent training program for operators of public transport and university shuttle services. The courses aim to sensitize drivers and staff to the various forms of gender‑based violence, promote respectful treatment of passengers, and strengthen a culture of reporting and prevention.

UAEMéx director of University Mobility and Transport, Juan Roberto Calderón Maya, said the initiative is part of the joint work of the institutions and reflects the university’s social commitment to address problems that affect society. Research by the university identified harassment and stalking as the most frequent expressions of violence in public transport, mainly impacting women and girls. Executive officer of the Institute of Transport, Ricardo Delgado Reynoso, noted that the training seeks to prevent sexual aggression and other violent acts during daily journeys. The program also includes certification of Potrobús operators and the implementation of protocols for handling gender‑based violence cases within university transport.
