Universidad Católica 0-4 defeat by San Luis prompts coach Garnero to blame referee
Universidad Católica suffered a 0‑4 loss to San Luis de Quillota in the Copa Chile group stage, a match played at the Estadio Lucio Fariña in Quillota. Although the team had already secured qualification to the round of 16, head coach Daniel Garnero directed post‑match criticism at the officiating. He highlighted a hit on Juan Francisco Rossel that went unpunished, disputed penalties involving Jimmy Martínez and Justo Giani, and the referee’s handling of aggressive play that led to Giani’s ejection.
Garnero accused the officials of severe errors, noting the absence of VAR and the impact of the synthetic pitch on his side’s performance. He argued that the refereeing “influenced too much the final score” and called the match “nefarious.” The loss will be followed by a week’s rest before Católica’s next league fixture against Deportes La Serena.
