Universidad Central de Venezuela dining services face imminent closure

The Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) is facing a critical shortage of food supplies for its student dining services. The Student Dining User Commission and the Student Rights Secretariat of the Federation of University Centers (FCU-UCV) have warned that current inventories are only sufficient to maintain service for one week.

This crisis extends beyond the main campus in Caracas; the UCV Maracay branch is also experiencing similar instability following ministerial inspections that failed to secure concrete resource allocations. While the Student Welfare Organization (OBE-UCV) has conducted maintenance, cleaning, and plumbing repairs to keep facilities operational, the lack of a guaranteed budget for food supplies remains the primary threat to the service.

Student leaders are calling for an urgent meeting with the Vice Ministry for Student Well-being, led by Génesis Garvett, to determine whether the government will continue weekly supply deliveries or provide a direct, decentralized budget for administration. In the absence of an official response, student representatives are urging university rectorate authorities to activate emergency mechanisms to prevent a total suspension of dining services.
