Universidad Central del Este announces poetry prize winner

The Universidad Central del Este (UCE) has announced Alejandro Nicolás Fonseca Granda as the winner of the XXIV UCE Literature Contest 2026 in the poetry category. Writing under the pseudonym ‘El Archivista’, Fonseca Granda’s winning work is titled ‘Archivos de Omisiones’.

The announcement was made at the university headquarters in San Pedro de Macorís by Rector José Hazim Torres, Miguel Phipps, and members of the jury. The judging panel included prominent Dominican literary figures Mateo Morrison, Plinio Chahín, and Ofelia Berrido.

The jury praised ‘Archivos de Omisiones’ for its imaginative richness, expressive imagery, and lyrical dimension. The work was noted for its deep reflections on existence, the universe, and the human condition, specifically addressing themes of death and human fragility. This edition of the contest coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Universidad Central del Este.
