Universidad de Colima contributes to Mexican puppet history exhibition

The Universidad de Colima is contributing its documentary heritage to the exhibition "Historia de los títeres en México. Joyas del Museo Nacional del Títere," scheduled to open on August 26 at the Museo de Historia Mexicana in Monterrey.

The university's General Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage coordinated the delivery of high-resolution digital files from the Documentary Archive of the Museo Universitario de Artes Populares. These records include photographs dating from 1912 to the 1950s, depicting puppeteers, marionettes, and various forms of tent theater (teatro de carpa).

Notable items include images related to the Carlos V. Espinal e Hijos company and the Rosete Aranda Theater, both significant to the history of Mexican puppetry. The university's involvement stems from a 2006 donation of marionettes from the Rosete Aranda legacy, which are preserved and conserved within the Museo Universitario de Artes Populares.
