Universidad de Colima launches 2026 oratory and declamation contests

The University of Colima is launching its 2026 Oratory and Declamation contests aimed at high school students. The initiative seeks to strengthen students' abilities to argue, express themselves before an audience, and engage with literature through spoken word.

Marcial Aviña Iglesias, head of Culture and Humanities for the Directorate of Upper Secondary Education, stated that these activities help develop verbal, corporal, and written expression. The declamation component encourages the appreciation of universal literary heritage, requiring participants to prepare poems from representative 20th-century authors such as Federico García Lorca, Pablo Neruda, and Octavio Paz.

The oratory competition will include an academic component where students must construct speeches based on materials provided by the university regarding its Educational Model.
