Universidad de Concepción del Uruguay hosts first sports congress

The Universidad de Concepción del Uruguay (UCU) held the first “José Benjamín Zubiaur” Congress of Physical Culture and Sports in Gualeguaychú on September 18 and 19. Organized by the UCU Gualeguaychú Regional Center and the Faculty of Communication and Education Sciences, the event gathered specialists in sports and education.

A central theme of the congress was the legacy of José Benjamín Zubiaur, a former rector of the Colegio del Uruguay “Justo José de Urquiza” and a foundational figure in Argentine Olympism. Zubiaur was notably the only Latin American representative in the initial formation of the International Olympic Committee.

Speakers included José Lauritto, the Mayor of Concepción del Uruguay, and various academic experts. Educational sessions focused on practical applications, such as strength training in children and adolescents, motor skills development, and logical-tactical thinking. Key lecturers included Rodrigo Borda, Mario Mouche, and Emilio Masabeu.
