Universidad de La Guajira hosts 5K Pink Race for breast cancer awareness

The Universidad de La Guajira held the fourth edition of the 'Yo corro por mi salud' 5K Pink Race at the Federico Serrano Soto Stadium on October 24. Approximately 5,500 participants gathered to promote breast cancer prevention and early detection.

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer caused nearly 670,000 deaths globally in 2022. In Colombia, data from the Cuenta de Alto Costo indicates that fewer than half of new cases are detected in time, falling below the national target of 60%.

The event was supported by the Gobernación de La Guajira, the Mayor's Office of Riohacha, the Liga contra el Cáncer Seccional Guajira, and the Hospital Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. Anielson Peralta, Director of University Wellness, stated the initiative serves as a space for sensitization and community commitment to health.
