Universidad de Los Andes confirms 2026 election schedule

The Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) has confirmed that its upcoming elections for university authorities and co-government will proceed as scheduled. Following a visit from the Ministry of Higher Education to discuss legal and technical aspects of the process, acting Rector Patricia Rosenzweig announced that the co-government elections are ratified for October 7, 2026. The elections for deans and authorities are set for a first round on November 11, 2026, with a second round on December 11, 2026.

The University Council has requested a detailed report from the Legal Advisory Service regarding Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) rulings related to the transitional electoral regulations. Rosenzweig stated that the ministerial representation reaffirmed respect for university autonomy and that there is no intention to postpone the elections, which will renew the institution's leadership for the first time in 18 years.

Separately, rumors have circulated regarding the potential suspension of elections by the National Council of Universities and allegations of irregular management involving the Administrative Vice-Rector. While the university community has responded by emphasizing institutional autonomy, the situation has prompted discussions regarding internal accountability and the integrity of the electoral process.
