Universidad de Sonora to celebrate 84th anniversary

The Universidad de Sonora is preparing to celebrate its 84th anniversary this October. The commemorative program includes a variety of academic, scientific, cultural, and sporting activities designed to recognize the university community.

Key events include the ‘Noche de Serenata’ on October 9 at the Rectoría building, featuring musical groups such as the Rondalla Femenil and Mariachi Unison. On October 11, the institution will host an anniversary race at the Miguel Castro Servín stadium. Additionally, approximately 85 undergraduate students will be honored for their academic trajectories on October 12.

Since its founding on October 15, 1942, the university has evolved from offering basic courses in pharmacy, nursing, and teaching to a major institution. By 2026, the university expects to serve approximately 40,500 students across 59 undergraduate and 64 postgraduate programs, with 82 percent of its academic staff holding doctoral degrees.
