Universidad de Tarapacá appoints first female rector

Jenniffer Peralta Montecinos has assumed her role as the first female rector of the Universidad de Tarapacá (UTA), serving a term until 2030. An alumna of the institution with a doctorate in Social and Organizational Psychology, Peralta Montecinos previously held several leadership positions within the university, including Academic Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences.

Her administration aims to transform academic knowledge into social and productive innovations to benefit sectors such as agriculture, tourism, education, and health. The university is currently overseeing significant projects, including the construction of one of Latin America’s largest supercomputing centers in Arica, and has recently received recognition from UNESCO regarding the Chinchorro culture.
