Universidad del Atlántico approves new Civil Engineering program

The Superior Council of the Universidad del Atlántico has approved the creation of a new Civil Engineering program. The initiative aims to expand professional training opportunities for youth in the Atlántico department and the Caribbean region, addressing local needs in infrastructure, construction, and urban development.

The program, which will be part of the Faculty of Engineering, is designed to span nine semesters and 139 credits. It is expected to initially offer 80 in-person spots. The development of the curriculum followed several years of feasibility studies, market analysis, and technical validation from the Society of Engineers of Atlántico.

Implementation is projected to begin in 2027, pending the acquisition of the required qualified registration from the Ministry of National Education. Rector Leyton Barrios noted that the program aligns with the institution's 2022-2031 Institutional Development Plan and seeks to connect academic offerings with the social and productive demands of the Caribbean region.
