Universidad del Atlántico investigates alleged contractual irregularities
Leyton Barrios, the rector of Universidad del Atlántico, has announced an investigation into alleged contractual irregularities discovered during an administrative and financial review. Key findings include a contract exceeding 800 million pesos for security and mental health services that raised questions regarding its cost, duration, and the suitability of the personnel involved.
The rector also reported significant delays in the construction of the university's campus in Soledad, a project valued at over 50 billion pesos. The project is currently over 200 days behind schedule and is not expected to meet its December 2026 completion date. Additionally, the review identified difficulties in contracting medical operators for the institution's health unit, which has reportedly impacted service for users, particularly elderly patients.
Findings related to agreements signed with national entities and ministries during 2022 and 2023 will be presented to the Superior Council and referred to oversight bodies for further investigation.
