Universidad del Tolima expands higher education to rural Bajo Calima

The Universidad del Tolima, through its Institute of Distance Education (IDEAD), has expanded its reach to the rural area of Bajo Calima in the Buenaventura region of Valle del Cauca. Twenty-two rural students have begun studying Forest Ecosystem Protection and Recovery Technology.

This initiative aims to reduce educational gaps for rural, Black, and female communities. To support students, particularly those from remote areas like Bahía Málaga and San Isidro, the program provides scholarships, food vouchers, connectivity tools, and housing for some participants.
