Universidad Industrial de Santander studies statistical graph reading levels

A research study conducted at the Universidad Industrial de Santander analyzed the levels of statistical graph reading among higher education students in a basic mathematics course. Using a qualitative approach based on the framework by Curcio, Friel, Curcio, and Bright, the study assessed four levels of reading: reading data, reading between data, reading beyond data, and reading behind data.

Through an instrument consisting of ten questions involving various graphical representations, the research identified different interpretation methods, difficulties, and criticisms regarding presented statistical information. The participants were mathematics degree students enrolled in a probability and statistics didactics course.
