Universidad Nacional de Cuyo inaugurates first female leadership team

The Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (UNCUYO) has entered a new institutional phase with the inauguration of Adriana García as Rector and Ana María Sisti as Vice-Rector. This marks the first time in the university's 87-year history that a leadership team composed entirely of women has taken office. Their term is set to run from 2026 to 2030.

During her inauguration speech, Rector García emphasized the need to redefine higher education through academic innovation, digital modernization, student welfare, and territorial connection. She highlighted the importance of maintaining the university's identity as a public, free, and inclusive institution.

One of the immediate challenges facing the new administration is the issue of salary deductions for faculty participating in strikes. Vice-Rector Sisti stated that the administration has not yet decided whether to maintain these deductions, noting that the matter will be discussed in local negotiations with unions. The administration also aims to address teacher salary deterioration and advocate for university funding against national policies that may impact science, culture, and health.
