Universidad Nacional de La Plata awards Indio Solari honorary doctorate
The Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), through its Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication, has resolved to award the late musician Indio Solari a post mortem Doctor Honoris Causa. This represents the highest academic distinction from the institution.
The decision, which was approved unanimously by the Faculty's Board of Directors, recognizes Solari as more than a musician, describing him as a “sociological, literary, and political phenomenon.” The university highlighted his unique discursive universe, characterized by metaphors and deep social criticism. The resolution specifically noted the impact of the “misas ricoteras” during the 1990s, which served as spaces for cultural resistance and identity for marginalized youth.
Solari's family, including his wife Virginia and son Bruno, expressed their gratitude via social media, noting that the distinction serves as a collective tribute to his legacy and his people.
