Universidad Nacional de Tucumán: Mohamed and Madkur assume leadership
Sergio Mohamed and Horacio Madkur have assumed leadership roles as rector and vicerector of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT). The official formula won the University Assembly with 146 votes, significantly outpacing the opposition list led by Miguel Cabrera and Virginia Abdala, which received 11 votes.
The election marked the first application of the university’s new Statute, which expanded representation to include experimental schools and non-teaching staff, bringing the total number of authorized assembly members to 161. The process also featured the debut of a single paper ballot system.
Regarding future management, Mohamed outlined plans to continue the existing strategic plan, organize the budget, and collaborate with the provincial government to expand territorial reach. He noted that student enrollment from the interior has risen from 25% to 43% and expressed a desire to increase access to public education. Additionally, the administration plans to implement a central university dining hall and carry out works at the Dickens Complex.
On the issue of university financing, Mohamed stated that his administration will align with the measures of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) to demand compliance with relevant laws and support protests regarding budget requirements.
