Universidad Nacional de Tucumán elects new authorities

Sergio Mohamed and Horacio Madkur have been elected to lead the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT) for the 2026-2030 term. In a University Assembly held at the Centro Cultural Virla, the Mohamed-Madkur formula secured a decisive victory with 146 votes, significantly outpacing the opposition pairing of Miguel Cabrera and Virginia Abdala, which received 11 votes.

The election utilized a new single paper ballot system (BUP) and followed the implementation of a new University Statute, which expanded the Assembly to 161 members by including representatives from pre-university schools and non-teaching staff.

Following the results, Governor Osvaldo Jaldo expressed his support for the new authorities, emphasizing the importance of institutional leadership. The incoming administration has identified university financing as a primary challenge and indicated they will support protests regarding the fulfillment of the University Financing Law.
