Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María marks one year of Punto EV-USM

The Punto EV-USM initiative, led by the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E), has reached its one-year milestone. The project establishes a sustainable electromobility model in Latin America by integrating solar power generation with electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Operating at the Valparaíso and San Joaquín campuses, the project has facilitated over 600 charges and accumulated 20 MWh of solar energy. The initiative includes free charging stations, access to clean technologies, and applied training for students and faculty. Supported by collaborators including Nissan, Arauco, and Gildemeister, the university aims to reduce entry barriers to electromobility by promoting a paradigm where vehicles are charged via photovoltaics during the day at the workplace.
