Universidad Tecnológica Nacional marks 78 years of technical education
The Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) marks its 78th anniversary, tracing its origins back to August 19, 1948, when it was founded as the Universidad Obrera Nacional (UON) under Law 13.229 during the presidency of Juan Domingo Perón.
Originally designed to provide higher technical training for workers and support a growing national industry, the institution focused on specialties such as electrical installations, mechanics, and aeronautics. In 1959, the university was renamed the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. The institution is noted for its regional faculties across Argentina and its role in professionalizing the workforce through public education.
Historical precursors to the university include initiatives by engineer Pascual Pezzano to create specialized technical institutes. Over the decades, the UTN has expanded its academic scope and territorial presence, contributing significantly to sectors such as energy and technological innovation.
