Universidad Veracruzana accuses Ciudad Mendoza mayor of interference

The Universidad Veracruzana (UV) has accused the Mayor of Ciudad Mendoza, Gustavo Sánchez Ortiz, of interfering in a prolonged student strike at the Faculty of Medicine. The university issued a statement calling for respect for its constitutional autonomy and requesting that the municipal government refrain from intervening in academic and administrative matters.

The strike, which has lasted approximately 19 to 20 days, involves medical students seeking improved conditions for their professional training. Students have criticized UV Rector Martín Aguilar Sánchez for allegedly refusing to engage in public dialogue, accusing the administration of institutional blockage by relying solely on digital communications.

Local citizens have also criticized the mayor's involvement, suggesting that municipal resources should instead be directed toward pressing local issues such as public safety, water supply, and infrastructure improvements.
