Universidad Veracruzana hosts international AI summit
The Universidad Veracruzana (UV) has launched the Second International Encounter of Artificial Intelligence in Xalapa. Organized by the Institute of Research in Artificial Intelligence (IIIA), the event brings together national and international specialists to discuss the discipline's impact on research, education, health, robotics, and industry.
Roberto Zenteno Cuevas, the UV Director General of Research, noted that artificial intelligence presents significant challenges for universities, particularly regarding its potential in teaching and research alongside its ethical and social implications. He emphasized that the institution is working to integrate AI tools into teaching processes, educational resource creation, and scientific data processing.
Zenteno Cuevas stressed the importance of academic rigor and responsibility, stating, “It is not enough to know the application; it is necessary to understand its scope, limitations, and possible consequences.” He also highlighted challenges such as disinformation, privacy, unequal access, and labor market transformations, calling for active university participation in establishing guidelines for responsible use.
