Universidad Veracruzana medical students occupy campus in Mendoza

Medical students at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) have taken over the Faculty of Medicine facilities in Ciudad Mendoza, Mexico. The occupation began in the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, and students intend to maintain the takeover indefinitely until their demands are met.

The protesters are demanding direct dialogue with the university rector to address long-standing issues. Key grievances include poor infrastructure and a lack of basic supplies, such as toilet paper and hand paper. Students also reported that some new facilities lack running water for handwashing.

Additionally, students raised concerns regarding academic management and financial transparency. They noted that professors are sometimes assigned up to nine subjects, which they claim hinders quality instruction. Students also questioned the use of tuition and fees, noting that despite paying between 4,000 and 6,000 pesos, basic services and infrastructure remain inadequate.
