Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz hosts first Virada Cultural

The Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (Uesc) is hosting its first Virada Cultural on September 25 and 26. Organized by the Pro-Rectory of Extension (Proex), the free event will take place on the university campus in Ilhéus, Bahia.

The program features a diverse range of activities, including music, audiovisual showcases, literature, poetry, exhibitions, capoeira, hip-hop, popular culture, crafts, workshops, and debates. The initiative aims to connect the university community with local artists, collectives, and cultural agents from southern Bahia, integrating culture into academic life.

The inaugural edition will include a tribute to Emiron Gouveia de Deus, a communicator and audiovisual producer who was an active member of the Uesc community and passed away in July. Local tourism experts suggest that such cultural events help diversify the regional identity of Ilhéus beyond its traditional attractions like beaches and cocoa production.
