Universidade Sénior Padre Joaquim Espanca begins new academic year

The Universidade Sénior Padre Joaquim Espanca in Vila Viçosa has commenced the 2026/2027 academic year. The new program features workshops focused on local history and the personal memories of the students, aiming to foster community engagement by moving activities outside the traditional classroom setting.

Coordinator Beatriz Borrões expects to enroll between 40 and 50 students. The curriculum includes partnerships with the Museu-Biblioteca da Casa de Bragança and the Laços de Sabedoria – CLDS 5G project. Local authorities emphasized the institution's role as a space for both learning and the transmission of knowledge between generations.
