Université Gaston Berger concludes 15-day Citizen Camp
The 2026 Citizen Camp at Université Gaston Berger (UGB) in Saint-Louis has concluded after a 15-day program held from August 17 to August 31. Approximately 500 participants, including students, faculty, technical staff, and local youth from the village of Sanar, took part in the initiative.
Organized by UGB in collaboration with the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the program utilized a military-inspired routine to instill values such as civic duty, patriotism, discipline, leadership, and community service. The camp was supervised by 61 members of the defense and security forces from Military Zone No. 2, including the army, gendarmerie, police, customs, and forestry services.
Activities included training on republican values, institutional functions, civil protection, and national cohesion. Specific sessions focused on fiscal citizenship, gender policy, and combating international drug trafficking. The program also featured physical activities like hiking and sports, as well as public utility initiatives such as tree planting and solidarity actions. Organizers expressed an ambition to make this an annual event and potentially expand it to other higher education institutions.
