Università Iuav di Venezia to participate in UN Climate Week
Università Iuav di Venezia will participate in the United Nations Climate Week in New York, co-organizing a workshop titled “Water–Energy Nexus. The Closed Budget: Who Draws from a Bankrupt Account?”. The event, scheduled for September 24, focuses on the growing imbalance between water resource availability and demand.
The discussion is centered on findings from the report “Global Water Bankruptcy: Living Beyond Our Hydrological Means in the Post-Crisis Era,” published by UNU-INWEH. The report argues that many regions are no longer merely consuming their “water income” from rainfall and rivers, but are instead depleting their “water capital,” including aquifers, glaciers, and wetlands.
Key speakers include Francesco Musco, professor of urban planning at Iuav and president of Corila; Simone Venturini, Mayor of Venice; and Kaveh Madani, director of UNU-INWEH. The workshop also features representatives from the FAO, ICOMOS, and the Club of Rome to address the urgent need for new development models and planning tools in response to this hydrological insolvency.
