Università Politecnica delle Marche presents space technology innovations
The Università Politecnica delle Marche (Univpm) will present eight research projects at the Bex - Beyond Exploration expo-conference in Rimini, scheduled for September 23–25, 2026. The event focuses on the space economy and commercial space flight.
Among the highlighted technologies are smart space suits equipped with sensors to monitor astronauts' vital signs and biomechanical parameters in real time, as well as AI-driven systems for ocean monitoring to predict natural disasters. To address the psychological challenges of long-term space missions, such as isolation, the university has developed virtual reality headsets designed to help astronauts relive shared moments with their families on Earth.
Two specific projects, ‘Earth Memory’ and ‘Vitalis,’ have already received approval from the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for potential inclusion in the Axiom5 mission. These innovations aim to support both the physiological and mental well-being of crews during ascent, reentry, and orbital stays.
