Université Toulouse hosts conference on women filmmakers and feminist cinema
The Institut de Recherches sur le Genre et les Sexualités – ARPEGE will host a conference titled ‘Women Filmmakers and New Feminist Cinemas’ from October 21 to October 23, 2026, at Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès.
The event aims to examine how women filmmakers engage with feminism in the early 21st century, specifically looking at the impact of the #MeToo movement and the ‘economy of visibility.’ The conference will explore how women are reshaping cinematic forms and audiovisual languages across mainstream and independent spheres, including narrative, documentary, and experimental approaches. Discussions will involve transnational and comparative perspectives on British, French, and US cinema, questioning the criteria used to define feminist film and television in the mid-2020s.
