Universitario de Deportes replaces Héctor Cúper with Fabián Bustos

Universitario de Deportes has officially announced the departure of Argentine manager Héctor Cúper following a 4-0 defeat against Deportivo Garcilaso. The club reached an agreement with Cúper to terminate his contract after a four-month tenure that saw the team struggle for consistency in the Torneo Clausura.

To fill the vacancy, the club has signed Fabián Bustos, who previously led Universitario to the national championship in 2024. Bustos has signed a contract extending through December 2027. His coaching staff will include assistants Edgardo Adinolfi and Jonathan Mejía, with Marcos Conenna serving as the physical trainer.

Piero Alva will serve as the interim manager during the current international break. Bustos is expected to begin training with the professional squad on October 1, though he must serve a three-match suspension imposed by the Peruvian Football Federation before making his competitive debut, which is projected for matchday 14 against Sport Boys.
