Universitario de Deportes extends Alex Valera contract, releases Brazilian forward Miguel Silveira

Peruvian side Universitario de Deportes confirmed a new contract for striker Alex Valera, valued at €1 million, extending his stay beyond the current expiry on 31 December 2026. The club rejected a loan proposal from América de Cali, aiming to keep Valera for the 2027 season. Valera, 30, has become the team's top scorer with 81 goals in 178 appearances since rejoining in 2021.

In the same roster overhaul, Universitario announced the termination of Brazilian attacker Miguel Silveira ahead of the 2026 Torneo Clausura. Silveira, who arrived from Japan’s Albirex Niigata after spells in Brazil and Russia, featured in 11 matches and scored once. The club cited limited impact and is freeing a foreign‑player slot to pursue new reinforcements as it strives to remain in the title race.

These moves reflect Universitario’s broader strategy of squad renewal as it targets continued success in Peru’s Liga 1.
