Universitario de Deportes sees friendly match cancelled and defender transferred to Liga de Quito

Universitario de Deportes announced that the pre‑season friendly scheduled for 4 July 2026 against fellow Peruvian side Sport Boys was cancelled. The decision came after Sport Boys cited internal issues and unpaid obligations, prompting the club to withdraw from the match. Universitario will instead host Colombian club Millonarios on 11 July as its next preparation fixture.

In a separate development, Ecuadorian side Liga Deportiva Universitaria signed 29‑year‑old left‑back José Carabalí from Universitario de Deportes. The Ecuadorian club presented Carabalí as its third reinforcement for the second half of the season, highlighting his experience in the Peruvian league and the Copa Libertadores. The transfer adds defensive depth to Liga as it prepares for domestic and international competitions.
