Universitas Islam Riau partners with oil and gas industry for Petrel Hackathon 2026

Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) has strengthened its collaboration with the oil and gas industry through the Petrel Hackathon 2026. The program aims to prepare competent human resources for the upstream oil and gas sector by connecting students with real-world industry technology, workflows, and subsurface challenges.

Initiated by the Indonesian Association of Geologists (IAGI) Riau and the Indonesian Petroleum Engineering Association (IATMI) Riau, the event was developed in partnership with SKK Migas Sumbagut, SLB Indonesia, and UIR’s Migas Center. The program included registration, training, mentoring, and a final presentation phase.

The initiative received support from several Contract Cooperation Contractors (KKKS) operating in Riau, including Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), EMP Bentu Limited, Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP), SPR Langgak, APGWI, Pertamina EP Lirik, and Texcal Mahato. The closing ceremony was held on September 3, 2026, to recognize the participants' progress in learning how geoscientists and engineers collaborate to solve technical problems.
