Universitas Jenderal Soedirman corruption case involves student admissions

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named six suspects in a corruption case involving student admissions at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed). The investigation follows a sting operation targeting extortion and gratification related to the independent student selection process.

During the operation, authorities detained 14 individuals across Purwokerto and Jakarta. Investigators seized approximately Rp665 million in cash and Rp99 million in bank balances. The case has highlighted potential vulnerabilities in the independent admission tracks of state universities, raising concerns about the integrity of higher education governance.

Observers have called on the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of university admissions. Experts suggest that similar corrupt practices involving the sale of student seats may exist at other institutions but have not yet been identified by law enforcement.
