Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona bans Vito Quiles from campus
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) has officially prohibited any events organized by Vito Quiles at its Bellaterra campus. The university administration denied permission for a scheduled talk set for Monday, October 19, noting that Quiles failed to submit the required formal requests for the use of academic facilities.
To prevent potential unrest, the UAB has requested intervention from the Catalan Department of the Interior. The regional government has committed to securing the perimeter and deploying police to ensure the planned appearance is prevented. This decision follows previous instances where the university denied space for political gatherings, such as a meeting involving Gabriel Rufián and Irene Montero, citing policies that prioritize academic activities.
Critics of the decision have raised concerns regarding freedom of expression and the use of public space, while the university maintains that all activities must adhere to established authorization procedures.
