Universitat Catalana d’Estiu concludes 58th edition in Prada
The 58th edition of the Universitat Catalana d’Estiu (UCE) concluded in Prada, North Catalonia. The annual event, which brings together academic and political figures from across the Catalan-speaking territories, faced significant financial uncertainty this year. UCE President Joandomènec Ros noted that the edition was nearly suspended due to delays in receiving government subsidies, criticizing the current administration for its treatment of the institution.
In response to these challenges, Joan Talarn, President of the Diputació de Lleida, announced that his institution will double its financial support to ensure the future of the UCE. Francesc Xavier Vila, the Minister of Linguistic Policy, defended the university's role as a vital space for social guidance and reflection, particularly in regions where the Catalan language is more vulnerable.
The closing ceremonies included the presentation of the Premi Canigó awards to the La Bressola school network and the newspaper El Punt Avui, both celebrating their 50th anniversaries.
