Universitat Politècnica de València hosts international AI reasoning conference

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) hosted the sixth edition of the International Joint Conference on Learning and Reasoning (IJCLR 2026) from September 16 to 18. Organized by the Valencian University Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN), the event brought together approximately 50 researchers from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East.

The conference focused on neurosymbolic learning and inductive logic programming, fields that aim to complement large language models by creating AI systems capable of learning logical rules from minimal examples and providing explicit, understandable explanations for their conclusions. This capability is considered vital for high-stakes sectors such as medicine and science.

Keynote speakers included Stephen Muggleton, Laurent Orseau, Kevin Ellis, and Jennifer Neville. The program featured 35 scientific papers covering diverse applications, including assisted stroke diagnosis, retinal disease detection, genetic perturbation prediction, and the development of interpretable models for biological research.
