Universitat Rovira i Virgili partially reopens renovated faculty

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) has begun the partial reopening of its renovated Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Sescelades Campus in Tarragona. Following a two-year rehabilitation project with a budget of 9.5 million euros, the facility is being reintroduced to the university community in stages.

Currently, 14 classrooms are operational, accommodating approximately 500 students. The remaining 1,200 students of the faculty are temporarily distributed across other university spaces. The project aims for full functionality by the second semester, which will include the inauguration of the magna aula (great hall).

The renovation focused on modernizing the 1976 building to meet current needs while respecting its original design. Key improvements include enhanced sustainability through LED lighting, improved climate control, and solar protection on windows. Structural upgrades include fire protection, improved emergency exits, the removal of architectural barriers, and the installation of an adapted elevator. Additionally, some classrooms have been converted into multi-purpose spaces that can serve as both lecture halls and laboratories.
