Universitatea Craiova defeats FC Bacău in Romanian Cup amid coaching uncertainty

Universitatea Craiova secured a 2-1 victory against FC Bacău in the opening stage of Group D in the Romanian Cup. Nsimba and Roux provided the initial lead for the defending champions, though Roux received a red card in the 78th minute. FC Bacău managed to reduce the deficit through Robert Ciobanu in the 52nd minute but could not equalize despite a numerical advantage late in the match.

Following the game, Universitatea Craiova coach Filipe Coelho expressed concerns regarding squad fatigue and injuries, noting that the team has played 17 matches this season. He highlighted the difficulty of playing on synthetic surfaces and the need to manage players ahead of their upcoming Superliga match against U Cluj.

Amidst these challenges, reports suggest uncertainty regarding Coelho's future. Due to disappointing European performances in the Conference League and inconsistent domestic form, club officials, including Mihai Rotaru, are reportedly considering coaching changes. Former Romanian national team coach Edi Iordănescu has been mentioned as a potential candidate on a shortlist to lead the team.
