Universitatea Craiova completes high‑profile signings of striker Assad Al‑Hamlawi and goalkeeper Alexandru Maxim
Universitatea Craiova has added two notable players ahead of the new season. The club secured striker Assad Al‑Hamlawi, a 25‑year‑old Palestinian‑Swedish forward who scored 16 goals and four assists in his debut SuperLiga campaign. Al‑Hamlawi, under contract until 2028, attracted interest from Legia Warsaw and clubs such as Club Brugge, Mainz 05 and AEK Athens. His market value is estimated at €1.4 million.
The team also signed 19‑year‑old goalkeeper Alexandru Maxim, arriving from FCSB after a loan spell at FC Voluntari. Maxim has appeared in 24 matches and is valued at €200 000. Former Craiova president Sorin Cârțu praised Maxim as a “future goalkeeper with size,” while FCSB president Mihai Stoica criticised the move, questioning the cost and the player’s readiness. Both transfers aim to strengthen Craiova’s squad for domestic and European competitions.
