Universitatea Craiova advances to Europa League play-offs

Universitatea Craiova has qualified for the Europa League play-offs after defeating Finnish side KuPS 2-1 in the second leg of the third qualifying round. Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Romanian team secured a 3-2 aggregate victory at the Ion Oblemenco Stadium.

KuPS took an early lead in the 4th minute through Valentin Gasc, but Craiova responded in the 43rd minute when Steven Nsimba converted a penalty. Carlos Mora secured the win for the hosts with a long-range strike in the 62nd minute.

Craiova will now face Ararat Armenia in the play-off round. This progression carries significant financial implications; the club has already guaranteed substantial UEFA prize money through its participation in the qualifying rounds and its secured place in the Conference League group stage. Depending on the outcome against the Armenian champions, the club could see total revenues from UEFA exceed 4 million euros.
