Romanian SuperLiga: Craiova wins while UTA Arad defeats CFR Cluj
The Romanian SuperLiga experienced a series of significant match results and managerial reactions during round 12. Universitatea Craiova secured a 2-0 victory against Farul Constanța with goals from Simon Elisor and Oleksandr Romanchuk, extending their winning streak to five matches. Craiova coach Filipe Coelho noted the need for squad rotation due to upcoming European fixtures.
In contrast, CFR Cluj suffered a 1-0 defeat against UTA Arad, with Omar El Sawy scoring the decisive goal. UTA Arad achieved their first home win against CFR Cluj in 20 years. Following the loss, CFR Cluj coach Marius Șumudică expressed frustration, stating the team is “the shadow of CFR from previous years” due to the departure of 18 players. However, club owner Nelu Varga expressed continued confidence in Șumudică, promising future transfers.
Universitatea Cluj and FC Argeș played to a 2-2 draw. The match was marked by controversy, including a disallowed goal for FC Argeș and a disputed disallowed goal for U Cluj. Meanwhile, Dinamo Bucharest continued their strong form with a sixth consecutive victory, defeating FC Botoșani 2-0, led by captain Cătălin Cîrjan.
Youth competitions also saw activity, with Bihor county clubs FC Bihor and LPS Bihorul debuting in the Elite Cup against Cluj-based teams, and UTA Arad's junior teams securing wins in the play-out stages.
