Chile extends PAES 2026 registration deadline amid climate emergency

The Technical Access Committee has extended the registration period for the 2026 PAES Regular university entrance exam in Chile due to a severe climate emergency that has suspended classes across the Atacama, Coquimbo and Valparaíso regions. Applicants now have until Monday 27 July at 13:00 to complete their online registration, select a testing venue, choose the required and elective subjects, and download their identification card. The exams are scheduled for 30 November, 1 December and 2 December 2026.

Subsecretary of Higher Education Fernanda Valdés said the measure aims to give families peace of mind and ensure no student is excluded because of connectivity problems or other climate‑related difficulties. DEMRE director Leonor Varas similarly emphasized the commitment to equity and equal opportunity in higher‑education access.
