Universities deploy IoT technology for disaster resilience in West Sumatra
A collaborative team from Universitas Negeri Padang, Universitas Syiah Kuala, and Universitas Brawijaya has launched a community service initiative to strengthen disaster resilience in Nagari Malalak, Agam Regency, West Sumatra.
Part of the 2026 Collaborative Indonesia Community Service Program, the project focuses on post-disaster recovery through digital transformation and mitigation capacity building. The team is developing a real-time early warning system utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) and geospatial technology.
Key technical implementations include an Automatic Water Level Recorder (AWLR) and a Web-based Geographic Information System (Web-GIS) dashboard. This system allows local authorities and residents to monitor river water levels and rainfall patterns, enabling earlier recognition of disaster risks.
