Universities host audiovisual and cinema appreciation events

Educational institutions are hosting events focused on the evolution and appreciation of cinema. In Santiago, the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) will hold the Muestra Audiovisual de Comunicación Social (MACS) from October 6 to 8. The event features short films and documentaries by students and independent filmmakers, with awards in categories such as Best Script, Best Direction, and Best Documentary. The jury includes Dominican professionals Cristian Mojica and Victoria Linares Villegas.

Meanwhile, the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC) is hosting Cinema Day from September 28 to 30. The event explores the differences between watching films in theaters versus digital platforms. Experts, including Dr. Manuel Rivera and Dr. Natalia Baeza, emphasize that the controlled environment of a cinema—characterized by large screens, immersive sound, and lack of distractions—is essential for a full narrative immersion and the construction of cinematic meaning.
