Universities implement new campus parking policies
Universities at San Diego State University (SDSU) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) have implemented changes to their campus parking policies to improve availability and management.
At SDSU, Parking Services has updated requirements for pay lots and expanded options, including the conversion of the Wellness Center lot to an economy commuter lot due to low utilization. Officials noted that many students are unaware of available spaces, such as economy lots which are accessible to residential and standard commuter permit holders during the day. Pay lots offer the first 30 minutes free, followed by a $1.50 hourly rate.
SFU implemented revisions to its parking lots and service areas effective September 1. The changes include designating specific areas for permit holders, visitors, hourly parkers, and Flexpass users in the north and east lots. The university also increased parking spaces for the EVO Car Share app in the east lot to improve accessibility, a move that has received mixed reactions from students regarding the allocation of space.
